Staying Injury Free During The Silly Season!
The silly season can be a hectic and tiring time of year, we have some handy hints that will help you to get through the festive season injury free.
Plan your shopping trips
Plan your shopping expeditions, you can lose track of time when you’re out shopping in a busy mall, so make sure that you take lots of breaks. You may find yourself saddled down with a load of bags, don’t try to take them to your car in one large journey. Schedule more than one trip, the last thing that you want is an injury, it will spoil your fun over the silly season.
Assess the size of your parcel before you pick it up, if it looks as though it is going to be too heavy for you to manage ask someone to help you with it. When you do pick up a heavy item, make sure that you bend your legs whilst keeping your back in a neutral position, keep the parcel close to your body bending through your legs, not your waist.
Keep an eye on the kids
Most kids love receiving gifts such as a new bike, skateboard, ipad or computer game! Before your kids jump on their bike or skateboard, make sure that they’re wearing a helmet as well as brightly coloured clothing, this will ensure that they are seen on the road or the track. If your kids love playing computer games or on an ipad, make sure that they don’t get too absorbed with their gift, sitting for hours on end slouched over a computer screen or an ipad. Playing good old fashioned backyard cricket can provide a good distraction for the kids after they’ve spent hours sitting in front of a computer screen.
Stay active & hydrated
We tend to indulge a little more than we normally do over the festive season, enjoying a couple of extra bevvies and some snacks. To help to balance this out make sure that you stay active, when you’re doing your shopping take the stairs instead of the lift or the elevator, make sure that you stay hydrated especially if the temperature starts to rise.
If you do happen to injure yourself over the silly season, you can always make a booking to see one of our physios if you need to do so press here.
