Physiotherapy treatment can be used to relieve headaches or migraines. Here is an example of how physiotherapy has helped one of Core Physio’s clients that suffered from headaches.
Kate* visited one of Core Physio’s practices as she had experienced migraines her whole life. She constantly had daily headaches up to four times a week with a 4/10 pain fluctuating between the right and left sides of the head. Kate* communicated her constant reliance on medication, going through a packet of pain relief weekly.
After a physiotherapy assessment, it was identified that Kate’s headaches and migraines could be reproduced and changed through the mobilisation of specific upper neck joints. The assessment was able to identify which areas of the neck needed treatment. The physio was also able to provide the right exercises for Kate* to do at home in between consults. This greatly helped Kate* to manage her pain.
After five treatment sessions, Kate* was able to go a full week without headaches. It had significantly reduced her use of pain relief medication. The time between treatment sessions was also extended as she was controlling her posture and doing regular stretches.
