The majority of Women’s Health issues can be grouped into two main categories:
Our Women’s Health Physiotherapists are trained in techniques to manage both of these areas and to help patients continue on with the activities of their daily lives.
It isn’t just those who are pregnant or have had a baby that need Women’s Health Physiotherapists. Our Women’s Health Physiotherapists can treat the conditions of women of all ages.
At least 70% of Australian women suffer from symptoms that are associated with pelvic floor function. These issues can be distressing; socially isolating and can interrupt your daily activities. The pelvic floor muscles play a large part in regulating these symptoms; they are located at the base of your pelvis and run from the front of your pubic bone to the back of your tail bone.
Pelvic floor muscle movement can change as a result of a variety of different reasons that include pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, obesity, strenuous sports and ageing.
Further to this, Women’s Health Physiotherapists can help with painful conditions related to pregnancy or the postnatal period that include:
Pregnancy and birth can affect your body in many ways and symptoms can begin both whilst you are pregnant and after the birth of your child. These symptoms can impact on you significantly during this important time in your life, affecting your ability to care for your baby and enjoy the experience of pregnancy and motherhood.
Pregnancy hormones loosen your joints, ligaments and muscles whilst postural variations and an increase in weight can cause symptoms to arise. A large proportion of women suffer from a variety of different symptoms during pregnancy and after birth, our Physiotherapists are also able to assist you with your preparation for labour and the demands of caring for a newborn.
Our Women’s Health Physiotherapists can tailor physio group exercises to suit your individual needs during and after your pregnancy by combining core stability exercises, pelvic floor strengthening, stretching and mobility exercises. This will provide relief for symptoms that may develop during these times.
Our Women’s Health Physiotherapists will assess your symptoms to determine and assist with alleviating the cause of your problems. Treatment will be tailored to your condition after a detailed initial assessment that includes a thorough verbal history and should you consent a physical examination and/or Ultrasound. After the assessment has been conducted an individual program will be tailored in accordance with your symptoms. Treatment may include:
