The Physios at the Gawler Place practice enjoy both practicing and prescribing Pilates to their clients. Here are some of their favourite Pilates exercises that they’d like to share with you.
The Teaser Pilates Exercise
This exercise can be done on the mat, Trapeze Table, Reformer, chair, spine corrector and even on the ladder barrel!
It is highly versatile and can be performed with multiple modifications, progressions or regressions based on the individual. When done correctly, the teaser works on your coordination, lower limb dissociation, endurance, core control, strength and it’s an amazing slow burner of an exercise!
Segmental Bridging
Another favourite Pilates exercise at the CBD practice is segmental bridging, this is great for strengthening, stabilising and mobilising the body all at the same time!
It also helps in concentrating and creating self awareness of bodily movements especially of the lower back.
Last but not least, the reason why this is one of our favorite exercises is because it is a very safe and effective exercise in all stages of rehabilitation for clients recovering from any spinal injuries or biomechanical dysfunctions.
Back Extension on the Ladder Barrel
Back Extension on the Ladder barrel is an exercise that can be performed and modified as a stretching as well as a strength training exercise, depending on the position held on the barrel and individual needs.
It is an excellent exercise for beginners in Pilates, as it is crucial to understanding the basic correct spinal movement and techniques coupled with an appropriate breathing pattern in order to do more advanced exercises in the future, as you progress through your journey to achieve your fitness goals.
Understanding the very concept of segmental movement on a fixed curved surface improves your ability to coordinate your back movements better, thereby, improving your posture.
