We had a client recently attend the practice that had an interesting but common story that we thought we would share.
For a few years, Jan* had been retired from a demanding office job and was enjoying her life filled with lots of social activities and gardening with her husband. She had recently moved into our area and to a smaller courtyard home and was in the process of packing and lugging boxes, this reaggravated an old back injury.
On seeing her doctor and having some X-Rays she found out that this problem must have built up over time and had been lurking in the background, the results showed some arthritis and degenerative change in her lower spine joints and discs. Her Doctor recommended that she see a Physio, she was referred to the clinic by a neighbour and happy customer of the practice.
The Physio was able to settle down Jan’s* back pain and improve her spine’s movement over a couple of weeks, but the real success story started when Jan* began a Physio Group Exercise program.
While the program addressed her lower back issue by improving her core stability it also focused on some issues that hadn’t surfaced. The Physio identified that Jan* had poorer than normal balance and decreased strength in her upper body and postural muscles. They also determined that Jan* had a couple of falls over the last year and reported some aching in the neck and shoulders.
They added these things to the program and Jan* reported that they made a big difference to her confidence in moving around and her ability with her gardening giving her an extra day to work around the house.
Jan* was so happy that she convinced her husband to join Physio Group Exercise with her and they both now attend regularly.
