We would like to share this interesting story of a 27 year old lady who recently came into our Practice at Morphett Vale. Emily* is a receptionist that plays social level Netball, she trains twice a week and plays 1 game of Netball a week. Emily* told her Physio that she injured her right calf a week prior to her initial consultation. Upon the assessment of Emily*, her Physio confirmed that she strained her soleus muscle, which forms the main bulk of the calf muscle. Her treatment included soft tissue work on her soleus muscle and the mobilisation of her stiff ankle joint. The short term goal was to improve/normalise her walking for which the Physio then decided to use Rocktape. The muscle technique principle was used to apply the tape and at the end of her first session, Emily* demonstrated a significant improvement in her walking pattern. She was aware that she needed to do her prescribed exercises to aid recovery. After her follow up session in the same week, Emily’s* walking had returned to normal and she was experiencing less pain in her calf. After 3 weeks, Emily* was taking part in return to sport training, where she was advised to continue using the tape for prophylactic reasons.
