In this video, David will show you how to prepare yourself for a run. We all know that we need to warm and stretch before we exercise. The same applies when it comes to running or jogging.
In the past, most types of stretching revolved around static stretches where you held a stretch for up to a minute. This has now progressed into what is commonly referred to as dynamic stretching.
Dynamic stretches are different from the traditional method of holding a stretch for a long period of time. It’s a form of active movement that focuses on taking your whole body part through ranges of motion to stretch the soft tissues and joints you are about to use.
In the Vlog, Dave will take you through some dynamic stretches. This will help you have a better understanding of what you need to focus on to prepare your body for running. He recommends some stretches for your:
-Hamstrings
-Quads
-Calves
And covers how to begin your run after warming up and progress from that point.
Warming up before you go for a run prepares your muscles and joints for the run and reduces your risk of sustaining an injury. If you have a pre-existing injury you may need more assistance to select the right type of stretching for your condition. To find out more about any of these techniques make an appointment with one of our Physios at your local practice.
