In Physiotherapy, Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment technique that involves the use of a machine to produce a Shockwave that targets tissues in the body. At Core Physiotherapy & Pilates Studio Beverley, David and Andrew are our Physiotherapists who conduct this treatment.
How it works:
A pellet-like projectile sitting inside the Shockwave applicator strikes the head of the applicator repeatedly under pressure to produce a pulse of energy (known as a Shockwave).
These Shockwaves then travel through the body to the target tissue. Several effects can occur as a result of this, these include:
- Pain reduction
- Increased blood flow
- Decreased muscle tone
- Promoted tissue healing
Shockwave therapy has been shown to be clinically effective and we’ve seen many of our clients benefit from it. It can be used to treat a variety of musculoskeletal conditions including:
- Plantar Heel Pain
- Achilles Tendinopathy
- Tennis and Golfer’s Elbow
- Gluteal Tendinopathy
- Reduction of myofascial trigger points (localised or referred muscle pain)
… And many other musculoskeletal conditions!
Treatment can vary from condition to condition and can depend on a variety of factors. To see if Shockwave therapy is an appropriate choice of treatment for your condition, please do not hesitate to contact us for an assessment with your Physiotherapist.
