Jump Out Of Bed
Winter….. Below freezing overnight temperatures, dark foggy mornings and drizzly grey days. The temptation to roll over and turn off that alarm in the morning rather than putting on your workout gear is tough. But with some simple preparation and education we can help make it considerably easier, then come the warmer weather your body might just thank you for putting in the effort.
Don't Let The Weather Deter You
During this time of year, the weather is colder and the conditions outside your front door are also more slippery, making it a challenge for anybody. But it should not hold you back from staying active.
Even if it’s a quick walk to the car or a walk around the neighbourhood there are certain precautions that we need to take to prevent common injury.
The Correct Footwear
The best Winter footwear options are those that prevent slips and fall injuries. Choose shoes that not only keep your feet warm and dry but provide anti slip and grips on the outsole.
Prepare for the fresh air; On extremely cold days your body is working twice as hard to produce heat and the heart is doing the majority of the job. To help the heart out and warm up, engage in some light warm up exercises inside before leaving the house.
Focus On Your Steps
Focus on your steps; Smaller movements that keep your centre of balance are the safest. As with any walking movements be sure to bend your knees and keep the body as loose as possible.
With all the above tips we hope that you can get outside, feel confident and breathe in that beautiful crisp air. If injuries do occur don’t hesitate to contact Core Physiotherapy and Pilates Studio, one of our highly trained Physiotherapists can get you on the road to recovery again.
