Physiotherapy & Gym Injuries

Women engaging in Pilates and physiotherapy exercises at Core Physio & Pilates clinic in Australia.

Emily* is a 24 year old accountant that loves to keep fit. Her favourite type of exercise is going to the gym and doing one of the classes they have to offer. However, over the last few weeks she has been experiencing a nagging pain in her shoulder that began at the end of her body pump class. The pain was becoming more intense and started to last longer after she finished her class. Emily came into Core Physio to find out what was wrong. On assessment of Emily*, it was found that her shoulder blade wasn’t moving properly and her rotator cuff muscles were weak. This was causing her rotator cuff tendons and bursa in her shoulder to become irritated.

Emily* was treated with dry needling and massage to relieve the overloaded and tight muscles in her shoulder. She was also given a specific home exercise program to strengthen the muscles controlling her shoulder blade and her rotator cuff, which helped her shoulder move the way it is supposed to. After 6 weeks and with her new found strength and confidence in her shoulder, Emily* is now able to enjoy getting stuck into her classes with no pain.
