Recently Kate* arrived at our doors for the treatment of headaches. She had experienced migraines her whole life and a constant daily headache present four times a week as 4/10 pain fluctuating between the right and left sides of the head. Kate* communicated her constant reliance on medication, going through a packet of pain relief weekly.
Physiotherapy assessment identified that Kate’s headache and migraine could be reproduced and changed through the mobilisation of specific upper neck joints. The assessment was able to identify which areas of the neck needed treatment and the right exercises for Kate to do to keep the improvement happening between consults.
After five treatment sessions, Kate* was able to go a full week without headaches and had significantly reduced her use of pain relief medication. The time between treatment sessions was being extended and she was doing more herself by controlling her posture and doing regular stretches.
