As a beginner wanting to get in touch with your body through exercise, you may wonder what is the better way to get started – Yoga or Pilates? Both forms of exercises are low impact, low intensity workouts, focusing on correct patterns of breathing. Coupled with controlled sequential movements that work on coordination, balance and flexibility, while Pilates, gives you the additional benefits of core strength.
When Practising Yoga most of us work on postural flexibility, but do not have the awareness to turn on all those deep and core stabilising muscles.
This is where Pilates comes into its own, with much more of a focus on strengthening core muscles, this in turn helps sustain posture.
Thus, Yoga and Pilates- go hand in hand, the more you practice Pilates, the more that your body will strengthen for yoga.
